Ideas
to new projects
A number of areas of interest for future IEA HPP Annexes (projects) has been identified. If you are interested in any of the ideas or have other ideas, please contact the person(s) listed in the table below or the Heat Pump Centre.
The following ideas are of interest to the Heat Pump Programme and could be developed to a project proposal:

Future potential and needs for heat
pump systems and cooling Study the potential for heat pumping technologies in residential and commercial buildings now and in the future.

Free cooling Free cooling is a technology that can be very efficient for comfort cooling. A project can include a description of different free cooling technologies, an evaluation of the energy and environmental performance of the systems and through case studies show the benefits of the technology.

Process improvements in transcritical CO2
heat pump systems The overall objective of the annex would be to identify, investigate and document opportunities and possibilities for process/cycle improvements in heat pumping equipment.
|
Rune Aarlien rune.aarlien @ sintef.no |
|
Ammonia in small refrigeration and heat pump systems The aim of the annex is to demonstrate that ammonia can be used in efficient small scale heat pumping equipment, and to identify and solve any issues hindering this technology to be competitive on the market.

Global Building Energy Consumption data Benchmarking ECBCS has presented a draft proposal. The proposed new annex is to develop a standard methodology for building energy consumption data collection, presentation, analysis and definition. Uniformed index system will also be developed to make the data can be comparable.

The
Role for Air Conditioning in Demand-Side Management In summer-peaking electricity systems, air-conditioning is usually a critical component of peak demand. Improved system efficiency could reduce the peak, and peak-avoidance controls and operating strategies could improve peak load diversity.
This idea is to explore the opportunities to apply these approaches, in conjunction with the DSM Implementing Agreement. What are the benefits? And the costs?

Air
Conditioning Seasonal System Efficiency Calculations There are seasonal efficiency metrics for chillers and packaged systems, but there are few – if any – that relate to the whole system. In Europe, implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, is forcing countries to introduce such calculations as part of mandatory whole-building energy (or carbon) energy performance certification.
This idea is to collect and review international practice, develop guidelines on recommended procedures, and present examples of comparisons in different climates.
